Sunday, June 15

5-hour layover in Miami

Dinner at Quito pizzeria

 

Monday, June 16

Everyone realized Ecuador wasn't on Daylight Savings Time

Breakfast was small

"8-hour" bus ride

-Stopped to buy chocolate, picked up Andrés (#13!)

-Curvy, bumpy roads

-Engine overheated

--Bathroom break

--Hani wanted to milk a bull

-Visited waterfall

-Religious parade delayed bus by an hour

-Boot store was closed

-Reached reserve after 12 hours

-First game of Mau played

 

Tuesday, June 17

Took canoe ride to Cofanes tribe

-Irridescent blue butterfly

-Shaman Aurelio

--Face painting

-3-hour hike, including vine swinging, poison dart frogs, and the lemon-ants

-Purchased Cofan crafts

-Futból in the Jungle!

-Dr. Borbor's presentation

 

Wednesday, June 18

2-hour bus ride to 3-hour canoe ride into Cuyabeno

Lots of monkeys, birds

D'Leo

-High Shaman of the Siona Nation

Canoed to lagoon

-Swam in black water

-After sunset, went caimen-spotting

-Night walk in forest

-Played UNO with D'Leo

Thursday, June 19

Birdwatching at 5:45

-A few dolphins

Medicine Hike

Discussed oil companies with Peter, D'Leo

-"Livestrong bracelets...made of oil"

-Other tour group interrupted the discussion

D'Leo cured Mr. E's hurt foot

Piranha-Fishing

-Saw tucans

On way back to reserve, bus got stuck in mud

 

Friday, June 20

Planted 3 trees at reserve

Visited the toxic dumping pool

8-hour drive to the hacienda

Sauna/Steamroom/"Warm-tub"/Cold pool

Check-out dive

Snorkeled Pinnacle Rock

-Our first penguin

Dove Cousin's Rock

Motored to Sombrero Chino

-Penguins, Eel, Sea lion under boat

-Baby sea lion

-Giant wave engulfed Mr. E

-Sophia's bathing suit, Chino dove in

 

Tuesday, June 24

3:30 on Isabella

Giant Tortoise breeding center

-3 pairs mating

Snorkeled

-Threw almost everyone in (including Raulito!)

No sharks at Las Tintoreras

 

Wednesday, June 25

Dove, saw Cow Ray

Walked by flamingo lagoon, "talcum-powder beach"

Dove, sea lion family played with us

Post Office Bay

Futból in the Galápagos!

Sailed to Española

Thursday, June 26

Gardner's Bay

-Sand Castle, and King Bubba (The baby sea lion)

Snorkeled in cove

-Sea lions "danced" with Emily

Friday, June 27

Hiked looking for tortoises, saw 8

Walked in lava tube

Saturday, June 28

Dive at Gordon Rocks

Walked on South Plaza

-"The Cliff"

Final dive

Snorkeled at North Seymour

-Jellyfish incident

Walked on North Seymour

-Land Iguanas, Boody and Frigatebird colonies

 

Sunday, June 29

Panga ride through mangrove

-Turtles

-Hundreds of boobies diving at once

Juan Carlos got himself moved to our plane

Dinner at the same pizzeria in Quito

 

Monday, June 30

Visited Ilalo

Reforested hillside

-One tree was a giant Cebo

Visited private reforestation project

Futból at 10,000 ft!

Dinner at Mariana's

-Really fat dog

-Received diplomas

 

Tuesday, July 1

Guy on first flight was playing smart with the flight attendant

Would have almost missed flight from Miami, however a seat cushion was missing

Landed in Detroit and said farewells
